The Gilded Teapot -New Lymington shop

Dorset Tea Hunter - tea, coffee and more!

The Gilded Teapot is a new addition to the High Street in Lymington, the owner Jo, however, is no newcomer to the retail business this will be her second shop after the success of the shop of the same name in Dorchester.

If you are a tea addict this shop is definitely for you with over 140 teas to choose from you will be spoilt for choice. Each tea has a little sample jar so that you can really get a flavour of the different aromas, each packet also has a description of the teas taste. If you are unsure which one to choose ask Jo, she is so knowledgable about the whole tea growing process after many years in the business sourcing the best tea from around the globe.

Jo and I talked about making tea and it turns out, although I'm in my fifties I have been making it wrong all this time. There are numerous pots, strainers, filters and infusers all to help you with this process.

I also had the opportunity to sample cold tea first popularised in Asia, Jo tells me "they are served as a refreshing remedy on hot days, cold brew tea is a very different chemical process to the one that takes place with hot water. Higher temperatures encourage the leaves to release their many compounds and potentially bitter substances faster – however, the cold brew process reveals an entire new world of soft, sweet, grassy flavours with a rich touch to the palate."

One of the favourite teas The Gilded Teapot use for cold brew is Japanese organic Sencha Superior and is beautifully simple to make. The first method is add the Sencha to your teapot and fill it with ice cubes – once enough of the cubes have melted to fill your cup you can strain the infusion and enjoy. The other method is to add the tea leaves to cold water and infuse for 5-8 minutes. You can also re-infuse these leaves several times, so you can enjoy your cold brew throughout the day.

If coffee is your thing there is a large selection to choose from here along with some dreamy hot chocolate and sweet treats.

Special teas are such a lovely thing to give as a gift so consider a visit here for a unique present.

Well done Jo, on the opening in Lymington, I have no doubt it will be as successful as the first shop.
