Rick Stein - Sandbanks
Rick Stein OBE the celebrity chef owns this restaurant in Sandbanks and I have wanted to visit it since it opened in late 2015 but it warranted a special occasion, as luck would have it there has been two in the last 6 weeks.
Obviously restaurants owned by this fish loving chef are always in high demand and our most recent visit on a Monday lunchtime was no exception prior booking however, ensured a table in prime position by the window which gives a fantastic view of Poole harbour.
The lunch time menu is a very reasonable 3 courses for £25.00 and always uses seasonal local produce where possible. Drinks are on a par with most restaurants and Service charge is discretionary which personally I like. On that note the service cannot be faulted here we felt very looked after.
Having eaten from the seasonal menu several weeks ago two of us decided to go for the gorgeous looking Cod and chips from the main menu and two of our party decided to tackle the 3 courses. Although great value I find the quantity a struggle to eat at lunch time.
Starters for our table consisted of Viennese Mackerel Salad served with sour cream, red onion, apple and a caper dressing.
The second starter was Hake Fritters
with Cumin, garlic and pimentos.
Besides the cod and chips mains we ordered a Darne of Hake with lemon, bay leaf, spinach, onion and garlic along with a very unusual but delicious Pondicherry Cod Curry.
This dessert reminded me of a erupting volcano the way the passion fruit seemed to ooze from the centre and slide down the sides like molten lava. I have it on good authority from my mother in law that it was light and airy with just the right amount of sweetness.
An interesting thing to note for those of you with intolerances is that Rick Stein has a seperate menu for Gluten an Dairy Free. Personally i find it much nicer to choose this way without having to ask if its something can eat at every course.
We will without hesitation be going back to Rick Stein Sandbanks but will probably try an evening meal next time as I know first hand the sunsets from that area are stunning just like the restaurant.
Book a table at www.rickstein.com and don't forget to ask for a window table.
