Tuesday can be a bit of a strange night to be going out, but if you are a fan of lobster and fizz, NEO in the centre of Bournemouth certainly makes it worth the effort.
Neo, is a glass fronted, deco style restaurant in Bournemouth, it has stunning views of the seafront and the Lower Gardens. It is ideally positioned for pre show food or drink, The Pavilion and the BIC are just a few minutes walk away. (I notice NEO offers an early bird menu Monday - Saturday 5.30 p.m - 6.30 p.m).
If you are heading out just for drinks the Lounge Bar is extensively stocked with the best spirits, wines and beers and they tell me it includes over 40 gins. The guys behind the bar are well trained and entertaining to watch as they mix numerous cocktails, many of the syrups etc have been made in house.
However, my husband and I went along to try a new special available just on Tuesday evenings, lobster can be ordered 3 ways, with garlic butter, Thermidor or Aioli all served a choice of fries and salad. Choosing the size is the next decision you have to make, should I go for half or whole lobster?
Having had lobster before I know that I can manage the whole lobster as long as I don’t have a starter, decision made! My husband ordered a starter of scallops, described as being served on a bed of sand, sea and seaweed. It was really beautifully presented. Meanwhile I sipped on my fizz - did I mention it’s lobster and fizz night?
When our mains arrived I was really happy with my choice although, it has to be said, the steak Simon (hubby) ordered was apparently cooked to perfection and accompanied with one of the best pepper sauces he has ever had. Praise indeed from the pepper sauce connoisseur!
The downside of a Tuesday night out in town is work the next day for him, so we only had one drink each, which went down far too quickly. Worth noting though the cocktails are pretty special here, we spent an evening on the terrace back in the summer trying a few, the Gin Thai Colada made with locally produced Pothecary Thai Blend is one of our favourites.
So if you are celebrating on a Tuesday or just fancy going out on a different evening during the week then I recommend lobster and fizz, available every Tuesday up to the new year (with the exception of Christmas day).
Something you may not know is that NEO has its own multi purpose private dining area, it is elegantly furnished and can be hired exclusively for groups and is ideal for corporate meetings, presentations or lunch meetings. The Hermitage hotel next door is the sister venue and as such can offer accommodation as part of a package.
