Mbuntu -"I am who I am because of who we are".
The ground floor of The Bitterne Park Hotel in Southampton has taken on a whole new vibe thanks to Prince & Dorothy Ogbuji who are already well know for their West African & Caribbean restaurants in Bournemouth and Southampton.
I was returning to my childhood stomping ground for the first time in a number of years and honestly would never of ventured into The Bitterne Park Hotel but these seasoned restauranteurs have plans for it become a real community hub.
Renamed Mbuntu - "I am who I am because of who we are". Cocktails are now a thing and reasonably priced too, the inside has a fresh new look with inspiration taken from the history of the area and Prince and Dorothy's roots.
There are plenty of cocktails to choose from but I opted for a Mbuntu Colada it was delicious and well worth a try, the Jamaican favourite Red Stripe beer got the thumbs up from my husband too.
The menu consists of wraps, burritos, chicken, burgers and curries, I believe there is also a buffet option at lunchtime too, we opted for a chicken Katsu curry and a chicken shawarma wrap, food was good value and tasty, service was a bit slow but staff are doing their best to learn the ropes during covid restrictions and I'm sure any teething problems will soon be ironed out.
Sadly Im rarely in the area anymore but would urge friends and family that live locally to give it a go, try their buffet lunch or just meet up with friends for a cheeky cocktail.
