A few weeks ago I was invited to Forest Park Country Hotel for lunch, I took the opportunity to take my sister as she was on annual leave. The hotel can be found in the village of Brockenhurst in the heart of the beautiful New Forest National Park. Originally a vicarage built in the 19th century the hotel is now independently owned and recently redesigned.
On a sunny day be sure to ask if there is a table in the garden it really is a lovely place to sip Rosé and appreciate the surroundings. My instagram reel has a view of the inside the15milefoodie if I've peaked your interest.
Before I talk about the food I would like to thank the owner Kevin Wood for taking the time to chat with us about the hotel and congratulate him on the excellent service we received from the moment we arrived for our lunch. The staff were amazing.
We started with bread/oil and olives and and a lovely glass of Rosé, honestly there would of been plenty for another couple to join us. Whilst we browsed the menu it was great to see a number of familiar local producers on the menu including Lyburn Cheese, Book and Bucket cheese, Isle of Wight Tomatoes & Garlic and Brook Hill Vineyard.
The Dorset crab starter was my sisters it was served with herb mayonnaise, celeriac & apple remoulade, sourdough crisps & watercress oil, she enjoyed it so much she is still talking about it several weeks later. My starter of chorizo and prawns was equally tasty - but you know when sometimes you just have menu envy?
We both opted for the Ceasar salad with extra prawns and although this photo makes the dish looks quite small it certainly wasn't. There was plenty of succulent chicken, plump Atlantic prawns, smoked anchovies, fresh leaves and a generous shaving of parmesan not to mention the delicious herb croutons.
We were having such a wonderful time but as we were both driving we opted for a couple of their mocktails. Beautifully presented, refreshing and almost as good as the real thing.
Since visiting I have recommended Forest Park County Hotel to several of my friends and can't wait to return with my husband, perhaps next time we will get the train?
Our meals and drinks were gifted but the opinions and photographs in this review are all my own.
