Just a little bit Maw

Maw is a new cafe hot spot in Christchurch easily identifiable by the pink table and chairs on the pavement, adding a touch of colour to the High Street.

Owners Libby and Charlotte Mawford are sisters and originally from Norwich, the pair came to know the area whilst studying at Bournemouth University and working in hospitality to boost their income. Libby studied journalism and Charlotte fine art (some of her beautiful creations are on the walls).

Despite opening at the end of July 2021, one of the most difficult times for hospitality it soon became clear tourists and locals loved it, but only in the last few weeks has it been obvious who the regulars are, Gym goers, regular coffee drinkers, dog walkers, brunch lovers and now a growing audience for the laid back live music sessions on a Sunday afternoon. There is a bright and equally instagrammable upstairs perfect for those baby showers, or small private hires.

On our first visit we were there to try the brunch offering, Mr P went for the breakfast plate that included sausage, bacon, poached eggs, beans, potato hash, garlic mushrooms, tomato and sourdough toast. It was beautifully presented, not the easiest thing to do considering the ingredients and apparently tasted delicious too. I later learnt the meat comes from Neal & Sons Butcher in Tuckton so that explains why they were so good. #shoplocal

I went for the Spiced Shakshuka Eggs, spicy tomato and pepper sauce, eggs, mixed herbs, dill yoghurt and sourdough - cooked beautifully but I think I'm a bit of a spice light weight, even though the yogurt helped I couldn't finish it, maybe a heat warning is needed on the menu listing?

Everything is pretty instagram ready in Maw, unfortunately I didn't get the memo and was pretty embarrassed by the state of my hair in the photo below.

Moving on quickly to the Mixed Berry Smoothie decorated with viola flowers - delicious!

Breakfast/brunch is served 9.00am-5.00pm daily but keep an eye on their website for seasonal changes to the menu and opening hours. Drinks are available until 6.30pm

My second visit to Maw was to try their cocktails.

Taking on a very London vibe, Maw serves cocktails at Happy hour prices between 4.00pm - 6.00pm for £6 - who wouldn't want a cocktail served in a glass teapot or a Mojito served in a Tiki glasses. Brunch and bottomless bubbles are also proving very popular priced at £27 per person - booking recommended.

According to owner Libby, plans for the future definitely include more Maws in the area and potentially a similar styled hotel in the long term.

Maw offers something a little different in the area, I wish the girls the best of luck in building the 'Maw' brand and will be heading back with my girlfriends for that bottomless brunch.
